Mentoplasty

Mentoplasty or chin surgery is the surgical procedure that allows the alteration of its dimension and/or shape, with the objective of balancing and harmonising the face.

The shape and size of the chin are closely linked to genetic characteristics, however, the chin can change as a result of trauma or fractures.

This surgery is indicated for the patient who has:

• A small, retracted chin;
• Irregularities on the chin;
• Asymmetrical and poorly defined jaw line;
• Prominent nose;
• Unbalanced facial structure.

Mentoplasty is often associated with a Rhinoplasty. In evaluation consultations, this surgery is often recommended to patients who are only looking for nose modification (Rhinoplasty), because it is the harmony and aesthetic balance between the two that will give the patient’s face proportionality – balance between the nose, lips and chin – and ideal rejuvenation.

There are several techniques available to correct this deformity, from the application of fillers to lipografting techniques or the placement of chin implants.

TYPES OF INCISION

No scars: Placement of filler or the fat itself

Internal scar: when it is necessary to make an advancement of the bone of the chin itself and/or to place chin implants. The incision is located inside the mouth, between the lower lip and the gum and is not visible.

Surgical time: 30 minutes
