Rhinoplasty
Through this procedure, the Plastic Surgeon can, for example, increase or reduce the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip, narrow the base of the nostrils, modify the angle between the nose and the lip and correct congenital deformities (present from the moment of birth) or acquired deformities (such as, for example, trauma), always taking into consideration the proportionality of the face.
Besides the aesthetic issue, the improvement of the respiratory function and consequent quality of life is also one of the main reasons for seeking this type of intervention.
Frequent clinical situations in Rhinoplasty patients:
• Nasal septum deviation;
• Nasal trauma;
• Obstruction of the airways;
• Headaches;
• Chronic sinusitis;
• Nasal polyps.
Techniques:
Open Rhinoplasty: the incision is made in the columella area (the outer part between the two nostrils). The nasal structure is totally uncovered and exposed, which allows the surgeon to better visualize, evaluate and correct the existing deformities. The scar will be barely perceptible.
Closed Rhinoplasty: the incisions are made inside the nostrils and it is by this way that the Plastic Surgeon can access the bone and cartilage. Through this route there is not such a direct visualisation of the bone structures, so all the evaluation done during the surgery is done through the surgeon’s touch. Since the incisions are internal, they will not be visible.
